Finally in Florida

Not much to report in the past few days. We left St. Simons yesterday morning and headed out to the coast and south. Pretty uneventful journey to the St. Mary inlet then a few miles back to the north where we anchored near Cumberland Island. We had arrived about 2:30 and should have visited the island then… Instead we thought we’d wait till today and get an early start, explore the island then make a few miles south before sunset. Unfortunately, the wind kicked up yesterday evening and has continued non stop since. Riding over to the island then back in the dinghy would have been impossible in 20 plus knot winds. Cumberland Island looks like a beautiful place and becomes another one on the list we must visit if we pass this way again.

We did pull the anchor up about 11:00 and hoped to make some distance but we started having a problem with our GPS and electronic chart after a few miles. We dropped anchor again to research the problem, Jeff was able to diagnose the cause and setup a work around but by then it was too late in the day to make much progress. We are anchored at Fernandina Beach Florida, just south of the border between Georgia and Florida.

We hope to get moving early tomorrow morning, plan to stay on the ICW for now since high wind and high seas are predicted for the next few days. Weather is expected to be calmer and warmer by the weekend.
