On the Move

We have just a hint of WiFi here so I’m going to see if I can get a quick post up.

We spent a couple of days around Staniel Cay anchored west of Big Majors Spot Cay.  Among several neighbors we found 2 boats that we had met for New Year’s eve up at Warderick Cay in the Exuma Park.

It is really such a nice community.  Barry and Wilma invited us over to their boat for cocktails at sunset.  We have yet to experience the “green flash”, but Wilma told us what to look for.  Hope to see it soon.

We had an outstanding dinner in town with David and Mary from Morning Star.  We found a little local place that opens for dinner at 6pm.  When we showed up at 7 they had not seen one customer so they had closed and locked the door.  Hearing voices within, Morning Star Mary tapped on the door and asked if we could come in for dinner.  They opened up and made us all wonderful grilled grouper dinners.  Very simple, very local, very genuine, very memorable.

Great sail today from Staniel to Cave Cay.  The trade winds blow out of the east here so it is very nice to stay west of the islands on the Exuma Banks to avoid the big waves .  Unfortunately, eventually the water gets too shallow for us and we need to head to the ocean side to continue south.  Cave Cay is about the last spot where there is enough water  for us.  We will spend the night here then first thing tomorrow head out the cut and turn south east for Georgetown.  Brian and Katie arrive on Tuesday.

Our current location is 24.54N, 76.16W.  I have been uploading our track via inReach and it can be viewed at https://share.delorme.com/JeffPernick
